Relatives and supporters of former Cambodian Prime Minister Son Sann celebrated the 7-day memorial for the death of Mrs Son Sann in Phnom Penh yesterday.

Prince Norodom Vidavong aka Prince Tra, son of Prince Norodom Norindech and adopted son of Son Sann, told RFA yesterday night that Son Soubert, Son Sann’s own son, was not present during the commemoration.

Prince Vidavong said: “Our parent passed away 7 days ago, therefore, today, Sunday, is the seventh day following the death of Lok Chumteav Nema Son Sann. Therefore, all of us, including H.E. Keat Sokun, Mrs Im Sophorn, etc… we must organize (this commemoration). H.E. Son Soubert ordered us to organize the commemoration for him, because he left to France to participate in the mourning of his mother…”

In France, Mrs Son Eveline, Son Sann’s 3rd daughter, told RFA: “On Monday, her body will lie in state at 11:30AM at the cremation place. After a short break, following the religious ceremony, at around 2:00 to 3:00 PM, her coffin will be put into the crematorium. Following his, the family will bring back her ashes home, and will sent them to Cambodia with Mr Son Soubert.”

Son Sann’s wife was born Nema Toula Macchwa, her father is half Indian and half Cambodian, and her mother is Cambodian. She passed away at 3:00 PM on 09 July at her home located near Paris, France. She was 87-year old, and she passed away from disease.
