Sam Rainsy and Tioulong Saumura, his wife, were received in audience by Norodom Sihanouk in his Beijing residence on Tuesday 25 November, the Sam Rainsy Party indicated.
“This was a private audience by the family, we don’t know what they discussed about,” Mu Sochua, SRP deputy Secretary-general, indicated.
On 02 September, during the political crisis preceding the opening session of the National Assembly, the opposition leader wrote to King-Father to ask him “to undertake a new crusade to save the Khmer Nation,” in the name of some “1.3 million Khmer citizens who voted for the Sam Rainsy Party” during the general election.
The former monarch sent his “warm” congratulation to Sam Rainsy for his “patriotism” while avoiding to provide a direct answer on the issue.
Sam Rainsy will return back to Cambodia on Friday 28 November.
