Cambodia calls off plan to host SEA Games in 2011

PHNOM PENH, Mar. 14 (Xinhuanet) -- Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen announced on Tuesday that Cambodia will not host the 2011 Southeastern Asian Games (SEA Games) due to the high cost.

"We should spend our limited resources on something that is more important and necessary," the prime minister said at a graduation ceremony.

He cited the regional ASEAN summit in 2011, and the National Assembly elections in 2012.

"These things are more important than the games," he said.

Meanwhile, the prime minister suggested that Cambodia could host the games in 2020 or 2030, "It won't be too late for Cambodiato host the games in that time."

Cambodia sent a 121-member delegation for the 23rd SEA Games in the Philippines last year, but left behind other ASEAN member countries due to the poor training. Enditem
