Cambodia's King Norodom Sihamoni arrived in Malaysia on Monday on a regional tour to boost cooperation with other Southeast Asian countries.

Sihamoni will spend three days in Kuala Lumpur for a visit that includes meetings with Malaysia's King Syed Sirajuddin Putra Jamalullail and Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, according to both governments.

The Cambodian monarch is expected to travel Wednesday to Singapore, where he will meet with President S.R. Nathan and Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.

Cambodian Foreign Minister Hor Namhong said Sihamoni's trip would help bolster friendship and cooperation between Cambodia and neighbors Malaysia and Singapore.

The three countries are members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, which also includes Brunei, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam.

Sihamoni visited Cambodia's communist neighbors Laos and Vietnam earlier this month.

He took over the royal throne in October 2004 after the surprise abdication of his father, Norodom Sihanouk.
