Cambodia's King Norodom Sihamoni begins state visit to Singapore

SINGAPORE : Cambodia's King Norodom Sihamoni has arrived in Singapore for a state visit at the invitation of President SR Nathan.

He was hosted to a state banquet at the Istana on Wednesday evening.

Earlier the King inspected the Guard of Honour during a ceremonial welcome.

This is his first visit to Singapore since becoming king two years ago.

King Sihamoni, who is accompanied by a delegation of officials, also had a short discussion with the President.

He met Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong at Raffles Hotel in the afternoon before touring the Esplanade and was treated to a performance there.

The King is known for his passion for the arts. He had studied music and dance and cinematography in his younger days.

The former ballet dancer also pursued his love for classical dance at some of the leading conservatories in Paris.
