Prince Norodom Chakrapong officially announces Thursday about his withdrawal from FUNCINPEC party's general secretary candidacy while this open position is drawing fierce competition from a number of high ranking officials.

According to Prince Chakrapong's official letter to Prince Ranariddh, FUNCINPEC's president, prince Chkrapong says he withdraws his candidacy.

Prince Norodom Sirivudh is the royalist party general secretary, and is recommended by prince Ranariddh to be the party acting president while prince Ranariddh is absent.

Prince Ranariddh is currently in France. The party high ranking official Mr. You Hok Kry says that prince Chakrapong does not wish to be an obstacle to the party, and that he is considerate of prince Ranariddh.

Prince Chakrapong cannot be reached for comment. FUNCINPEC party under general secretary Nhek Bun Chhay looks like he will be a candidate for the position.
