The Sam Rainsy Party (SRP) launched an appeal to Cambodians living abroad to help provide funds for the commemoration of the ninth anniversary of the grenade attack on 30 March. The attack caused several death and almost 200 injuries in front the National Assembly building in [1997].
The appeal launched by SRP indicated that the party plan on spending $2,000 for the commemoration: $500 of which is the cost of the commemoration itself, and $1,500 is planned to be distributed to the families of the victims [of the attack].
The commemoration is planned for 30 March and will include a Buddhist prayer in memory to those who lost their lives during the attack.
Up to now, no arrest has been made in connection to the attack by four grenades launched at the crowd.
Some time earlier, the SRP blamed the responsibility on the Cambodian prime minister, Samdech Hun Sen, but later on, it wrote a letter asking for forgiveness from the prime minister instead.
