Wow, what an incredible story of survival Oni Vitandham has revealed in this absorbing biography. Told in a clear and easy to read style, Oni describes her miraculous journey through a childhood that would've consumed and defeated most of us, let alone a young girl who'd lost both parents and a succession of guardians. The recollections of her early life are graphic, powerful and vividly portrayed. She witnessed death and cruelty as a daily occurrence under the Khmer Rouge regime, traveling the length and breadth of Cambodia as well as wretched sorties into Laos and Vietnam before ending up in a Thai refugee camp. Beginning a new life in America didn't bring much respite from hardship as she struggled to adapt, ran away from foster homes, lived on the streets and suffered serious abuse. With help, she has turned her life around, become a proud mother and a strong advocate for change. The extent of her suffering - foretold in a prophecy - has set Oni on a mission to help her fellow countrymen, as the founder of an organization that provides education for Cambodian children. Her courage and determination in the face of overwhelming odds are to be admired. I am sure her story will be an inspiration to many.

This is one of the best books i have read in a really long time and even though im not cambodian i still love it. and im only 11 years old and i even think it was great. The hard thing to belive in the book is what she went though because if have met her you would never think that. and WHAT RUMERS.
Trust me this is a good book
I LOVE YOU ONI
And Oni is one of the nicest people i have ever met in my whole life and if people dont like her that is there big problem because there are mean and self centered people who only think of there self and Oni is not one of them she is a GREAT author
and i truly think that you should read it!!!!!!!
This Great author (comment #3 called) is making a living by collecting money from people on SSI or welfare in a few cities in California, US. as they are supporting her organization. These old folk do not know what this GREAT author doing...They have a big hope that she can help Cambodian.

I find it shocking you don't knows more about me. You made up a lies story and destroy good people. If you don't know the fact, Of course I will take a legal action on you.
If you a good person, never destroy other human being.

Author " On the Wings of A White Horse"
I like from April 17th 1975 back.. Khmer rouge a pol pot is the worst, the horrible crimes. I was 8 years old during Khmer rouge, I didn't know anything about politics. I knew they are scums.
I have red a lot of books but I think I will pass this one. Sorry that I know you so well, Oni.
My beloved author, Oni!
I personally don't know about you at all, ironically the way you have madly responded to ASOK, can simply tell me that you have something uglies to hide!
Like the old Khmer folks have repeatedly said," the basket can not cover the dead elephant completely!". If you were innocent,
the real gold doesn't afraid of the fire! Can you tell what is the meaning of "On the wings of a white horse!"? Thank you before hand.. Son Of The Famers!
After I finished the first book, I continued to write a second book to provide the Khmer generation to come with a gentle voice of hope for the future, and a passionate witnesses of the crimes of the past. I saw my writings a small gift , aimed at inspiring the light of pure action.
Today, I love what I do, and I do what I know is best. without people like you to pull me down, I will not have a chance to bring light to future generations.

Hi Oni,
Don't let the ignorance of other people bring you down. I believe that what you are doing is great, and you are truly a person that I admire.

Hi anonymous ASOK,

You must be too short and too ugly that is why you are too jealous with other Khmers who have light skin and look better than you.
May be you are a short Yiek Cong with black teeth. Oni is truly Kaun Srey Khmer not an idiot and stupid fool like you.
Kaun Khmer with white skin (Me)
from UP State NY.
hey all you haters out there, let her do her things and you do you. don't be jealous of others cuz it wont take you nowhere. I give her props of what she's doing cuz she's spilling out her memories that needs to be let go and that khmer pride. If you have dat KHMER pride, you wouldn't be hating but instead doing something good for yourself and for others.Oni, keep doing what you doing, dont let these haters bring you down. Life is too short to worry about those haters. Good Luck on watever you do, Oni.take care
Hi All,
I a young boy and I knew nothing about Khmer history but as I start to learn about Khmer history and unjust war I cannot believe what I see and hear. Some people write thing to benefit their course and some are just part of a propaganda tools. To these day Khmer still blame each other for the Killing Fields but fail to seek the truth and look for the truth all just believe in propagandas. Like the author here she may wrote a boom but that is only on her behalf of what she has endure but the whole concept is not there. But one thing I have to admire is her survival. As child people can not understand politic and we see what is presented to us. Like an old saying: A child see and do. Thank you for insight into your life and survival strength.
Dear Oni,
I appologize for not having the time or money to buy and read your book. May I ask how old are you now? Just wondering since from what I've heard you are too young to remember some of the things written in the book.
Also, as an observer (however naive I maybe), I noticed your poor way to conveying the message in the posting. I myself have no ability to write a book due to my broken english. Please advise me on how a person with limited english like me can successfully write and publish a book?
Also, isn't it true you have some "paranatural power"?
Also I remembered many people were lead to believe that you met Presidents of the United States on a regular basis. Some believed you will be the next Prime Minister of Cambodia due to your access to the While House and your super paranormal power. I also happened to know people who gave you lots of money because according to them, they are promised by you positions in your government in Cambodia in future.
Anyway, you are obviously a true lover of democracy and free speech. Your interested to sue people your made negative comments against you showed that you have the gut. That's exactly what a dictator wanted to hear. Thanks to you, I've learned a lot today.
First of all, I want to thanks for the time you took to share your comment about Oni. Again I want to thank you both sides for those who don't know and those who do know Oni. I knew Oni even before she wrote this book. For the past ten years many things she said and done were unrealistic. Good with talking done nothing but lie after lie. Yes, the book is good because she can make profit of it, she can no longer lie to people for her own profit
This is sound like JUDGEMENT DAY!
I do believe in an old Cambodian say that no matter what anyone want to hide and somebody and some angel will always reveal the truth!
Do I know Oni? No I don't! But I am beginning to learn more about her in bit and piece from other people! Nobody can hide from the truth!
Best of luck to you Oni. Please don't be distracted by bad comments from the stupid. Only ignorant people will take time to bring down others. Well educated folks will have better words. Ignore them that sting.
The different, bad and negative comments about Oni can possibly be posted by just "one person" with unkind thought and mind. This person oughta be ashamed of him/herself. A human with evil instinct. No good.
I don't know about that and all I know this web is free to everyone. I knew Oni very well and her x-husband and boyfriend. Oni just stop fooling yourself and face the truth. Sometime the truth is hurting, but if you are telling once you will get in a routine same as you were lying. To all of you who defend Oni, you are OK to please with her because I get nothing to loose, OK.
To all dumb/stupid/mental health Khmers people.....
As a Cambodian-american who lives in USA for 33 years, it is unbelievable how negative Cambodians are toward their own people who works so hard to finish such book. Instead of uplifting, your negativity is bringing hate, war/divide upon your own people/nation. Some of you are deserved to be colonized by Westerners for 100 years, land was swallowed by Thailand/Vietnam, genocided by KR, work like a slaves in US for years. History is proving these mental health again and again... Oni, Teary, and others I believe in power of love and compassion that are highest than all of us. May all of these evils who love money/violence/negativity/dividing are down in hell while you all are spiritually rising to the kingdom of love/compassion.
To 6:02PM,
Up until today, nobody writes why, and who behind the Killing Fields ?
The truth, the Viet Invasion of Cambodia, the occupation of Viet troops are still over 100,000 in Cambodia as said Hun Sen recently, the Vietnamization in the process to form an Indochina Federation rule by Viet Administrative...etc
is covered up by KR trial and 2008 Election.
All Khmers, inside and outside, ejoyed, to play Viet game. Hun Sen will win again for sure as over 3 millions Viet immigrants will cast ballot for CPP.
And what we, all Khmers, will do after that, or just accept it as Staus Quo ????

The author of "Norna Chea Kheatakor ?
Doctoure Him Sithan of Wa, Are you a Khmerouge insider? From the many sources of many Khmer inside and out side said " Hin Sithan " is the relative of Nuon Chea. The author of "Norna Chea Kheatakor ? "
He joint the khmer rouge in 1967 in Battambang lycee.
I also knew Oni and her ex-husband, Phally very well.. Oni, you are too young to know what was going on in Cambodia during Khmer Rouge era. If you got reference from some of other sources, you have to disclose it. Otherwise, I can say that you are plaguerized and your book has no value to mee. Micheal Blashdale must blash you off.

Hi Oni, I don't know you. I have not read your book. I just happen to learn about you through the Ki-Media article. I read the comments and would like to weight in.
I would like to congratulate you in compiling your personal stories and published the book. As long as your stories in the book are genuine that is all it matter.
As far as your name, it could be just a spell. You may just changed your spelling into an american way or you just happened to change your name. But if you are khmer and live through KR regime, I admiring you.

My friend who married to a Cambodian woman read your book and said was sad.
