The Appeals Court on Tuesday released on probation eight villagers imprisoned over violent land disputes in Kompong Speu province, and dropped charges against 19 others, court officials said. Appeals Court Judge Saly Theara said the 19 villagers would be reinvestigated and blamed village chiefs for the disputes. "Land disputes usually take place because the village chief does not file proper documentation and takes no responsibility," he said. Battambang court Tuesday released three men arrested in connection with violent land disputes in Pailin, said Sao Chanhorm, a Licadho monitor.
