Australia welcomes Cambodia's WMD commitment

Phnom Penh, April 13 (VNA) – The Australian Government welcomes Cambodia's strong commitment to controlling and preventing the proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD), Australian Ambassador to Cambodia Lisa Filipitto has said.

Ambassador Filipitto was quoted by the Cambodian News Agency (AKP) as saying that the Cambodian government's commitment was recently demonstrated by its ratification of the Chemical Weapons Convention.

Speaking at a two-day counter-WMD proliferation workshop which ended in Phnom Penh on April 13, Tea Banh, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence of Cambodia, expressed the Cambodian government's determination to further strengthen regional and international cooperation in the fights against cross-border crime, the trafficking of drugs, women and children, and especially in preventing WMD proliferation.

The workshop, the first of its kind, was jointly was attended by some 80 high-ranking officers from the Cambodian Royal Armed Forces and the National Police of Cambodia and representatives from Cambodia’s relevant ministries and agencies.-Enditem
