Sunday May 21, 2006

(Kyodo) - Three Taiwanese have been arrested by Cambodian police for allegedly trying to smuggle heroin into Taiwan, a senior police official said Sunday.
The three Taiwanese were arrested Friday and Saturday at Phnom Penh International Airport, immigration police chief Chhay Bunna said.

Chen Shin-hung, 57, and Chou Chun-tung, 30, were arrested Friday after they were found carrying four plastic chocolate boxes containing 4.75 kilograms of heroin, he said, adding they were planning to fly to Taiwan via Malaysia.

On Saturday, another Taiwanese identified as Huang Fang-hou, 90, was arrested after he was found with 1.9 kg of heroin in 10 packets inside his jacket, Chhay Bunna said. He was attempting to leave for Taiwan via Hong Kong.

About 20 kg of drugs have been confiscated at the airport over the past three years, according to government records.
