Cheam Channy, the Sam Rainsy Party Member of Parliament who is currently touring Canada and the USA, expressed his belief that the opposition party can win the upcoming legislative election in 2008.

This is the first time that MP Cheam Channy visits Cambodian communities overseas following his release from military jail at the beginning of 2006.

Asked whether the opposition party will participate in the formation of a coalition government with the CPP during the 2008 legislative mandate, Mr. Cham Channy told RFA: “I think that when we win the election by 50%+1, we will provide the opportunity for other political parties to cooperate with us. Also, if other political parties ask that we participate in the next government, I think that to preserve national unity, the SRP will participate in the next government after the 2008 election…”
