The People Power Party (PPP), rumored to be formed by Cambodian Center for Human Rights President, Kem Sokha, a few month back, really exists. However, Kann Vireak, its founder, denies any link with Kem Sokha and is surprised by the reactions raised by his initiative. “I don’t understand why some people within the SRP said that this party (PPP) was formed by Kem Sokha, nor do I understand why Kem Sokha accuses those who formed the PPP of wanting to defame him. [Kem Sokha and Sam Rainsy] know very well that it is I who founded this party,” said Kann Vireak, the former SRP official in the province of Pursat.
Following the return of Sam Rainsy and his change of strategy with respect to the government, the acrimony was increased between his party and Kem Sokha. The SRP accused Kem Sokha of acrimonious criticisms toward SRP such as “now sold out to the CPP”, and the SRP has accused Kem Sokha of using his NGO to create a political party. Kem Sokha always denied he had the intention of returning to politics. However, it did not prevent the rumor from spreading about his desire to form a political party with the chosen name of People Power Party, in reference to the movement which led to the downfall of Ferdinand Marcos of the Philippines.
The PPP just made its appearance on the political arena even though it has not yet fulfilled all the conditions needed to be recognized the ministry of interior. Kann Vireak must provide an organization chart of his political formation. But he cannot do that just yet because he is still looking for, among other thing, a president because he does not want to fulfill this position. “I am looking for someone very well known in the country to ask him to become the president of the party. I have a candidate. However, he does not dare. He is currently working for a NGO,” Kann Vireak indicated while insisting that Kem Sokha has nothing to do with this affair. Through this party, the former chief editor of the opposition newspaper, Sereypheap Thmey, claims to want “to participate in the reconstruction of the country.” “This party will be like a brake to prevent the government to do whatever it wants,” Kann Vireak explains. To Kann Vireak, if the SRP “continues to tone down,” then the PPP can play the role of a “new opposition.”
Hang Puthea, executive director of the election observer NGO Nicfec, receives with great circumscription the formation of this party. To him, diverting votes from the current three parties represented at the National Assembly requires a lot of time. “Even if it is someone who is very well known who will preside the party, it is not necessary that the party will become very popular,” Hang Puthea said while observing also that it would be a sin committed towards the people for someone to work for a NGO to collect popularity and credibility, and then to jump over to serve his political interests.

There will be no surprise to such a small party like this has been created. You will not get any seat in the 2008 election. please join with the single democratic force to unseat the CPP.
You dumbo! Is CPP created it.
Don't you remember of last stolen of Mr. Sam Ransy old party by Hun Sen Spy?
The more parties you create the more seats the CPP will win in 2008. Please learn the past lesson. Remember that the CPP never win the popular vote more than 50% but they manage to hold 73 seats in the national assembly because all their votes were not splitted. For example, the votes in Pai Lin, OUdormeanchey, Sihunuk Ville, Kah Kong, ...the combined votes of the SRP and Foncenpec were much more than the CPP but the votes splitted in two parties they had no seats in this small provinces or towns. Please learn the past to succeed for the future. Please stay focus on the common goal is to bring a true democracy and soverreignty to our nation!!!
Chey yO ppp!
This fool Kann Vireak is a fuken anti-social psycopath who can't get along with anybody except his associate Kem Sokha. The Cambodian world doesn't go around Kem Sokha!
Cambodian people don't have the times to masturbate every shit came out of Kem Sokha's mouth! This fool is better off open a convenience store or mom and pop stores. This is just another Problematic People Party (PPP)!
Oh mr. Khann Vireak if you really want to help Cambodians please stop your party.
You will gain nothing for this PPP, but to make Cambodians have more hoplessness. Let join with SRP and fight against the same enemy -CPP.
BELIEVE ME IF YOU LOVE CAMBODIA
Vichet can you read?
Khann Vireak is a run away SRP from SRP Porsath, Would SRP act like late funcunpec to acept Ing Hout, You Hockry and so on traitor?
Come on you guy get real! do not play too much with our head!
PPP, i hope that Khim Soka has been brought by HUN Sen during his meeting with HUN Sen.
I want all of the khmer politicians to take some past lesson as their experiences. The problem is because of the selfishness, everyone want to fullfil their ambitious without thinking about others who are living with the same society. And the result of this selfishness is the destruction as we have seen in many regimes.
I hope that if it is true that Kim Soka have formed this party, it is sure that he is walking to the wrong way, don't expect that khmer people will vote for him. For me i don't i used to support Kim soka because of his activity in the human right, but if he pretends to enter to the politic and create him own party. I will stop my support.
Don't be confused i am not SRP's member, i am in neutrol and not selfish, we should help to grow the existing tree, rather than grow a new tree from the crop, it takes too much time, if you are lucky, otherwise the desease will kille it before it gives the fruit.
Please don't be too much selfish.
7:13PM the way you write show that you are not in Cambodia and know little abour supporting Human right organization!
