Fighting human trafficking at Cambodia border - [It's all big talk from both Thai and Cambodian gov'ts that simply leads to more inactions]

Chon Buri - Thailand has signed an agreement to cooperate with Unicef and Plan Thailand to fight human trafficking in the country's eastern provinces bordering Cambodia.

Wallop Ploythapthim, permanent-secretary to the Social Development and Human Security Ministry, led provincial officials from Chon Buri, Rayong, Chanthaburi, Trat, Sa Kaeo, Prachin Buri, Chachoengsao and Nakhon Nayok in inking an agreement which will lead to a more coordinated and systematic capacity to combat the trafficking of women and children in the eastern provinces bordering Cambodia.

"This agreement will build a clearer working practice and better coordination between related government agencies to fight human trafficking in these provinces," according to Mr. Wallop.

He said the agreement also strengthens Thai-Cambodian relations in fighting the cross-border human trade.

"Human trafficking is the worst abuse of human rights and it has increased and become very complicated," Mr. Wallop said.

Thailand has added the fight against human trafficking to its national agenda and is prepared to allocate Bt500 million to the task to be carried out by the ministry and other government agencies, he said. - (TNA)
