Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen has defended his nation's human right record to visiting U.N. rights envoy, Louise Arbour.
Cambodia Prime Minister Hun Sen said his country is being unfairly criticized for rights abuses, particularly by U.N. officials.
Hun Sen lodged his complaint in a meeting Thursday with visiting U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights Louise Arbour.
Relations between Cambodia and the U.N. have been tense since March when special envoy Yash Ghai blasted the Hun Sen government for "iron-fisted" leadership, suppression of dissent and lack of reform.
Hun Sen advisor, Eang Sophalleth, says Ghai's criticisms were unacceptable.
"Ghai, he made an announcement, a comment in Cambodia, power is being concentrated to one person, which is a rather inappropriate statement to be issued," Sophalleth said. "And that seemed to be irrelevant to human rights issues, where he's just been in Cambodia for a few days and he made such a statement already."
The prime minister has called for Ghai to be fired for ignoring his government's efforts to expand human rights and democracy.
But Ghai's comments reflect broader international concern over the past year after the Hun Sen government launched a series of criminal defamation lawsuits against government critics. Several activists, an opposition politician and a prominent journalist were temporarily jailed.
Despite his frustrations with the United Nations, Eang Sophalleth says Hun Sen has no plans to stop the U.N. office from doing its job.
"He said that, you know, he has no intention, or he will not close the U.N. human rights office in Cambodia," Sophalleth said.
Cooperation is particularly important now that a joint U.N.-Cambodia genocide tribunal is expected to begin work in July after years of negotiations.
The tribunal will try aging former leaders of the Khmer Rouge, which ruled Cambodia from 1975 to 1979.
At least 1.7 million Cambodians died from forced labor, starvation or torture under the ultra-Maoist regime. The first trial is scheduled to open next year.

Mr. One-eyed butcher always thinks that he very excellent at doing his job as the so-called premier of Cambodia. Hahhaha. He always wishes to be known as the best of the best and the strongest of the strongest in this world and beyond. Hahahah. Even myriad of evidence against him pointing out how truly an incompetent brute he real is at doing his job, he still can't see the point. He has over 100 advisers telling him what to do, so this shows that he is simply a yes/no man born to serve the biddings of others. Hahhah.

Mr. Hun Sen is the longest prime minister ever in modern Cambodian history. He has ruled the country since the late 1980s, but he never learns how to accept the constructive criticism and how to judge himself. He should look to the outside world and learn how to react to the critics. His reaction to his critics dosen't fit to his position. He should not demand good judgement from other people, but let the people and the history judge him instead.

Tell the Khmer Rouge that Hun Sen is wearing glasses, maybe they'll take him away for us, for good. PEACE. CHANGE IS INEVITABLE. IT'S COMING FAST.
Hun Sen is in a position of PM for a long run. 30yrs has past and looking forward to another 30yrs if possible and no body can topple him down. They can shout, cream and yell, but that won't do anything to get him out from his seat. Reasons: He's being put to in-charged of Cambodia by Vietnam. He signed a life time contract with Vietnam inorder for Vietnam to invade Cambodia and drove Khmer Rouge out of power. Now every moved HunSen makes is oversee/controll and dictated by Vietname. Even HunSen wanted to Bring Democracy to Cambodia, but Vietnam won't allow. If HunSen dare to challenge that, vietname will slit his throat and pick another Khmer Puppet to be controller and continue on running Cambodian under the ordered/controll of Vietnam. There will be no political group can challenge this. If they try, they will be in serious danger and can win the plan and propganda that Vietnam has all along plan to take over Cambodia and now we're almost there. Just wait and see...

I reason that you don't need a bullet to kill this mother f..ker! What Cambodian people need is the international community to put a squeez on money supply to AH HUN SEN government! But international community won't help it either because these foreigners are in Cambodia to make a buck and so they don't give a f..k what is going on in Cambodia! In addition, China(superpower) kept supplying money to AH HUN SEN from collapsing! I had been observing that AH HUN SEN isn't smart enough to hold on to power for 30 years! It is the Vietcong and the China that help AH HUN SEN from collapsing! So this mean to destroy AH HUN SEN, then Cambodian people need to destroy the Vietcong and the China in the process! Now most Cambodian politicians depend on the ballot box to win AH HUN SEN but the ballot are controlled by AH HUN SEN! Not only that AH HUN SEN allowed million and million of Vietcong to enter Cambodia illegally to vote for him!

From date of his announcement until now, has anyone seen any real prosecution/conviction of any corrupt judges under his gov supervision? How about those who grab land from the poor? Any prosecution/conviction happen yet yet? What about the illegal logging throughout Cambodia? And the corruption within CPP? Has the issues ever been under spott light under his IRON FIST theory? I bet not. If he is truly an effective K9 dog, where is the true result of his IRON FIST ORDer? I really would like to see the report very much.
