The following words [pronounced] by a young and pretty “Evil Fox” ([word used] to designate the mistress of a “rich and powerful Gentleman” of our country, [the] 21st century Cambodia) are funny: “Me, I don’t give a f… on “reputation.” Reputation has no meaning when your stomach cries out starvation.” “When you need to eat to live, and when you cannot find a husband rich enough to feed you, to clothe you, to transport you, you have no other choice than becoming the mistress of someone “rich and powerful.” If your lover is only rich and does not hold political power, he is still acceptable because, being rich, he can offer you a lot of gifts and other material advantages assuring you a good life.”

Another young and pretty Khmer woman (whose parents are poor) voices out another opinion: “a rich and powerful lover is unable to prevent his jealous wife to make a very serious mess on you with acid attack, or to send you quickly to “the other world” by having you killed, assassinated. As far as I am concerned, I prefer looking for a husband who has no Lok Chumtiev [title of the wife of a high ranking official] to mess me up, or to send me to a less pleasing “paraklok” (other world).”
