Cambodia's leading trade and teachers unions say they will hold a nationwide strike on July 3 to demand a higher wages and a shorter working week.
The leader of the Free Trade Union, Chea Mony, and the president of Cambodia's Independent Teacher Association, Rong Chhun, have announced the strike in a joint statement.
The two labour leaders say the government has not responded since their May Day demands for better working conditions.
They say there is discrimination towards trade unions and the use of child labour has not been addressed.
Factory workers are pushing for a monthly wage increase from $US45 to $80 and are demanding a cut in weekly working hours from 48 to 44.
Teachers are requesting a wage boost from $25 per month to $100.

If the government has the will to develop Cambodia socio-economic, Cambodian government can easily increase the salary of all governemnt officials to a liveable level. According to the income tax law; Everyone earning over $US 300 dollars shall pay their income tax. How many people who earn more than US$300 per month has pay tax?
-All properties dealing in Cambodia, people who have made millions of dollars have pay any tax. A lot of employers in Cambodia have paid to much to under table monies than tax and this monies can also pay to their workers. Good on them. THey must determine their own destiny.
The electricity in Cambodia cost Cambodian people $1 per kilo watt hour. Cambodian people are paid $25 per month in salary!
I don't believe AH HUN SEN that he couldn't do anything to help Cambodian people!
If you ever go anywhere with Hun Sen´s cronies you all might have appreciated their generousity. You know sometimes they give US$100 to US$300 to a bargirl or karaoke girls just for a motordop...esp Keiv Kagnarith. I remember some years in 1997? 98? He gave US$150 to his young girl to take a motordop from prek eng resort to PP while he didn´t have time to drive her back. Think about that...
