France is to lift a ban on the adoption of Cambodian babies, which was imposed to curb trafficking and other abuses.
The foreign ministry in Paris says a protocol signed in Phnom Penh will allow the progressive resumption of adoptions between the two countries.
Nearly all European countries stopped adoptions from Cambodia three years ago amid evidence of a corrupt trade in babies for childless couples.
The new deal will not allow person-to-person arrangements, but only adoptions organised via an official intermediary.
The ministry says initially around 50 adoptions a year are expected, rising to 250 in the medium term.

European adoption of Khmer children and Australian for that matter, must be given a vigourous boost by the Hun Sen Government.
It is un-khmer and barbarously immoral to engage in financial exploitation like selling sheeps.
Adoption spreads the Khmer race and create a greater pull factor toward our country.
We should take advantage of the situation prevailing now in developed countries with their low birth-rate.
Remember that not in the very distant past the European preferred the Chinese, korean, Vietanamese babies of lighter skin to those of darker skin. Now that sort of preference becomes no more.
