Khmer Rouge’s Health Minister Dies at 86

A senior official of the Khmer Rouge regime, former Democratic Kampuchea Health Minister Thiounn Thioeun, died Friday at the age of 86 in-Phnom Penh, Pailin Municipality Deputy Governor leng Vuth said Tuesday.
leng Vuth, who is the son of former Khmer Rouge Foreign Minister leng Sary, said Royal Palace Minister Kong Sam Ol attended the cremation on Monday at Phnom Penh's Wat Ounalom.
"We used to live together, I am sad," leng Vuth said.
"He was a medical professor since the Sangkum Reastr Niyum...he defected in 1998."
The death of Thiounn Thioeun raises the question of whether he would have been an important witness or defendant at the upcoming Khmer Rouge trials.
"He was an important person to reveal how many people had died [during the regime] and of what," Documentation Center of Cambodia Director Youk Chhang said.
"There were a lot of people that died but not just by the killings, but also from disease, malnutrition and poor hygiene. There were outbreaks of disease without any treatment," he said.
Great Supreme Patriarch Tep Vong also attended Thiounn Thioeun's cremation, Khmer Rouge tribunal spokesman Reach Sambath said.
David Chandler, an expert in Cambodian history, wrote in an e-mail that research indicates Thiounn Thioeun did not have a major role in the regime. "He seems to have been pretty marginal, like his brother Thiounn Mumm, whom Pol Pot never really trusted," Chandler wrote. "I doubt [he] was given any responsibilities outside of his medical expertise."
Thiounn Thioeun, health minister from 1975 to 1979, was one of four well-educated brothers who held positions with Democratic Kampuchea.

This monster should have died before 1970 so that ah pol pot has one monster short. He has killed Cambodian people by creating medecine made up from Rice husks ( Kanthourk). He was one of the killers as well. I am sorry that his children have to feel shame for him instead.
Heheheh I still don't get why Cambodian are still stupid just blame and blame at the Khmer Rouge. I suggest you all go do some research and study about your history, maybe the truth will heal many broken hearted and lost. The words Khmer Rouge is just a scapegoat. Oh by the way that who just died properly druged by the ah hun sen government to shut him out of telling the truth. Yeah ask yourself who will die next before any real Khmer Rouge would presents thier evidence. Clues are everywhere but I guess Cambodian are still stupid enought to buy it and please don't be upset because that is how you are now.
Only a few crabs living in overseas during invasion of Khmer rouge in Cambodia who are thinking that Khmer rouge killing were not from Khmer rouge evils. I do not need to read books, or flyings from one place to another, to figure out who was behind the killing of Cambodian people. If foreign powers have forced these idiots Pol Pot , Ieang say, Khiev samphann, Nuon Chea etc.. and Ect.. If these idiots were not idiots, who else can come into Cambodia and killed a ll the Cambodians. These Khmer Rouge are the most idiot species on the planets who killed their own race, their own Friends, their own father and mothers.
Example. General Srey Ya was a good friend of Ieng Say. When Ieng Sary appeared in PHNOM PENH 1975, Srey Ya have ceme out to welcome him. They talked and laughted together and then, he killed Srey ya. What a evils. Everyone of Khmer rouge associate can only carry shame to their Nation and their ancestors. You cannot blame anyone else for your own stupidity.
