A newspaper editor fled the country and failed to attend questioning at Phnom Penh Municipal Court on Monday over a defamation lawsuit filed against him by a nephew of Prime Minister Hun Sen, the editor's lawyer said. You Saravuth, the editor of Sralanh Khmer newspaper, is seeking overseas asylum because he fears for his life, and has authorized the newspaper to run a correction or clarification to the offending article, which accused Hun To of land grabbing, lawyer Chhith Sarith said. He declined to say what country his client is in. You Saravuth filed his own lawsuit against Hun To accusing him of threatening his life, an allegation that Hun To has denied. Hun To said on Monday that he no longer wants to sue You Saravuth for compensation, but simply wants to ask him why he has repeatedly lied about him. "He continued slandering and defaming me on [Voice of America] and [Radio Free Asia] by saying that I had threatened him," Hun To said, adding that he wants You Saravuth to appear in court and apologize.
