The spokesman of the Funcinpec party indicated that the party is not preparing to commemorate the killings on 5-6 July, in which numerous former royalist party partisans were killed nine years ago.
On 5-6 July 1997, a large massacre was perpetrated in Phnom Penh when Funcinpec party armed forces clashed with forces supporting the CPP. Shootings and killings caused the death of several Funcinpec supporters, others fled the city.
The decision not to commemorate this event was met with criticisms inside Cambodia as Funcinpec fears it will affect the union it has forged with the CPP which is controlling the government currently.
Nouv Sivotharo, Funcinpec spokesman, said that the party has no reaction on this accusation: “It’s their opinion, they can accuse us anything they want, in the principle of national reconciliation, we need to have the duty to provide the nation with peace, sufficient security for the Khmer people, and we do not forget our thanks to the historic people who have sacrificed their life, we must do it [the commemoration], but we should choose a date that does not offend all parties which are currently enjoying their happiness in Cambodia currently.”
Nouv Sivotharo said that the celebration of this event has been moved to the Cambodian Pchum Ben (day of celebration for the dead) and to the Cambodian New Year instead.
Even though the Funcinpec is no where to be found commemorating this event, the SRP, on the other hand, declared that it will commemorate for the victims of this tragic event on 06 July.

Rannarith, you are a DOL TREIY SOY KOO leader. You are a leader without principle. As long as you have the power, you will kiss enemy's as... You forgot all of your supportors who were tortured and killed.. May it happen to you one day.
This is the second examples of how people died for working to protect this bloody monarchy. When Sihanouk called people to die for him during 1970-1975, all those who have brought him back to power in 1975, all were killed by his policy of 1975-1979. So people must remember all these stories if they want to have a peacefull life. Ignore these bloody idiot sihanouk and his children. They all animal who were born from evils.
Yes you are right to have reminded us of the danger of royal rule. Unfortunately the traditionalist Khmers remained hopelesly attached to the notion of " a country must have a king",
Just look back at our history .
We had a leper king ( Sdech Kumlung).
We had a totally disable king ( preah bat Prum Kel).
Ect.....All they wanted is a king. A leper King, an invalid King or an idiot King. It doest not matter.
They have been living in this sort of time capsule for a long long time,that they become unwilling or refusing to move forward and grasp the reality od the present day's time.
Like Pa Pa like son, our ex-king Sihanouk and Pri-Rannarith are a leaders without a vision...May be they have a vision for themself, but not for Cambodians who have sacrificed their life for the sack of what we are proud of "The Khmer Monarchy".

There is only one king on this earth. He is the King of kings not Khmer king, His name is Jesus. All Khmer kings will go to hell because of their behaviors and dump. They are not very smart just like father and son and the grand son, they are stupid. They will die sooner or later. asshole kings
