Funcinpec internal memos regarding the plan to remove Prince Norodom Ranariddh from his position of President of the Funcinpec party

We are provinding below internal memos from members of the Funcinpec party regarding the plan fomented by a group of Funcinpec party members to dismiss Prince Norodom Ranariddh from his position as party President. The first piece of information below is a report provided by General Sao Rany to Prince Norodom Ranariddh and the offended remarks replied by Prince Ranariddh.

On 13 June 2006, at 9:00 AM, in the room of H.E. Nhiek Bun Chhay. The Secretary-General of the Funcinpec party, under the presence of 2 deputy Secretary-Generals:

1. H.E. Chhim Siek Leng
2. H.E. Mam Bun Neang

[The meeting] was aimed at finding a current to push Samdech Krom Preah [Norodom Ranariddh] to become the Honorary President of the party. Also present in [this meeting] are the following members:

1. Sahakchivin Thoang Nouv
2. Sahakchivin So Chi
3. Sahakchivin Phan Chantea
4. Sahakchivin Min Saroeun
5. Sahakchivin Ou Bon
6. Sahakchivin Tep Nonry
7. Sahakchivin Long Rithiya

as well as a number of other Sahakchivins.

After H.E. Nhiek Bun Chhay raised the issue of the current wanting to push Samdech Krom Preah to become the Honorary President, the participating members of the meeting declared that: this current was fomented by them, and there is no need to find anybody else; furthermore, this group had also met in Siemreap province once already under the participation of H.E. Sim Son. During the meeting, this group no longer shows respect for Samdech Krom Preah who is the President of Funcinpec, they simple called out “Ranariddh” as your name [without the proper etiquette title].

Following the end of the meeting, H.E. Chhim Siek Leng, H.E. Mam Bun Neang reported [the situation] to H.E. You Hockry already, and this group is collecting thumbprints to send to H.E. Nhiek Bun Chhay to push Samdech President to become the Honorary President as they discussed during the meeting.

This is to inform Samdech Krom Preah-President.

Please Samdech Krom Preah-President receive the highest respect from me.

Petition for Denial

We, the men and women members of the Funcinpec party, are strongly denying and opposing against any leader, any individual, or any group who want to push Samdech Krom Preah the President of Funcinpec to become the Honorary President of the party.

We are all strongly opposed and will not accept any individual as the new president of the Funcinpec party. We are all determined to always faithfully follow the Funcinpec party led by Samdech Krom Preah Norodom Ranariddh, the unique historical president who received the rightful vote of confidence from the successive party congresses.

Samdech Krom Preah remains the sole president endowed with intelligence, know-how, courage, and wisdom, and who has led all of us against innumerable small and large obstacles with historical success, making us and all Cambodian people in the Kingdom very proud of.

In particular, the Prince is the only son of our Historical King (King-Father) who received the approval and has the ability to lead this Funcinpec party to compete on the political scene in order to bring peace, prosperity, and democracy.

We are all urgently and insistently demanding that Samdech President and the Secretary-General of the party urgently deal against the leader and the supporters of this pushing movement. These people must be necessarily kicked out from the party.

We agree to unite faithfully around Samdech Krom Preah Norodom Ranariddh, the President of the Funcinpec party, under all circumstances until the end of our lives.
