RUBBER PLANTATION WORKER PUNISHED FOR SEEING KING-FATHER

On July 26, 2006, Member of Parliament Sam Rainsy accompanied fifty workers from Chamcar Andaung rubber plantation (Chamcar Andaung commune, Chamcar Leu district, Kompong Cham province) to pay their respects to King-Father Norodom Sihanouk at the Royal Palace in Phnom Penh. Before leaving the plantation, the workers had been warned by managers that they would be fired if they dared to go to Phnom Penh to complain to the King-Father about their working conditions.

Upon their return from Phnom Penh on July 27, female worker Chin Voeun, 46, was effectively fired as the first case of punishment inflicted on the workers.

I don't know weather it is a neccessary decision to take action again the Plantation's managers by seeking assistance from Former King Sihanouk on their working conditions. The questions is former King, Sihanouk is going ti make a contribution?

Its seem that the planation's workers are not recieving adequate salary based upon their working hours.

This is such unfiarly business in Cambodia, where the workers are not treated with respect and the managers has the full authority to make decision, in fact even it is a wrong conduct.

I think Cambodia government must take appropriate action to combate any significant problem in the workplace in order to improve working productivity, in particularly the employees.

In order to improve fair and efficient working environment, Cambodia must officially introduce good and flexible law to change the financial and mental behaviour of managers.

Sok,
