S. Thomico is neither D. de Villepin nor … Ségolène Royal and even less Samdech Hun Sen

Translated from French by M. Preuk

Statement
From
Norodom Sihanouk

Phnom Penh, July 1st, 2006

Some reporters and other people are asking why Prince Thomico, who will form a political Party, remains my “private Secretary” and continues to live in the Royal Palace.

In this regards, I must let it be known the following:
  1. From time to time, I charge my nephew Thomico with answering for me a portion of the very numerous e-mails and letters addressed to me, as Mr. Srey Nory has too much work (including the writing and the typing of articles in French and English). However, my nephew Thomico is no longer my “private” or “personal” Secretary.
  2. Sisowath Thomico will no longer live in the Royal Palace starting from the day he will become a leader of a political party.
It is ridiculous and shameful to give such a political importance to S. Thomico who is neither D. de Villepin [Dominique de Villepin, current French Prime Minister] nor … [Ms.] Ségolène Royal [French Socialist tipped for the French presidency in 2007] and even less Samdech Hun Sen.

Signed: N. Sihanouk
