THE CAMBODIA DAILY
SRP President Sam Rainsy promised on Sunday to provide assistance to the thousands of people forcibly evicted in recent weeks from Village 14 in Tonle Bassac commune and the Preah Monivong Hospital site.
"The people don't have a water supply, if they continue to face the water shortage they will die," he said after visits to two relocation sites in Dangkao district and Kandal province's Ang Snuol district.
Sam Rainsy promised a week's supply of water for both sites and said he had paid to have some people sent to hospitals. He also promised to provide temporary housing in Phnom Penh for at least 20 junior high school children who were relocated to Dangkao and Ang Snuol and have been unable to attend their schools.
"Poor people are increasing their anger," Sam Rainsy said, and reiterated his warning that the government should either suspend its policy of forced eviction or face mass demonstrations in the capital.
CPP lawmaker Cheam Yeap accused Sam Rainsy of political saber rattling and said the SRP leader was merely launching his political campaign for the commune elections in 2007 and general elections in 2008.
"He wants the people to blame the government" Cheam Yeap said.
Cheam Yeap said that City Hall provided adequate evidence to Prime Minister Hun Sen to justify the evictions and that the government had provided adequate relocation packages to those moved from their homes.
Cheam Yeap justified the evictions, saying they were aesthetically important for Phnom Penh.
"The squatters gave a bad image to the city," Cheam Yeap said.
Sam Rainsy denied that he visited the relocation sites because he wanted to reap political rewards.
"People are miserable, it is not about politics," he said.
Cambodian Center for Human Rights Director Kem Sokha also accused Sam Rainsy of bandwagoning on the land issue.
"Demonstrations are his career," Kem Sokha said. "He pushes people and when violence occurs he flees," he said. "It is very dangerous for the people. He should try to find the solution first."

SINCE KEM SOKHA GOT RELEASED FROM PRISON (FOR WHATEVER THE REASONS WAS), I HAVE NOT HEARD ANYTHING ABOUT HIM AND HIS PEOPLE COMING OUT TO DO ANYTHING FOR THE PEOPLE AND THE COUNTRY. ALL OF THE SUDDEN HE BAD MOUTHING ABOUT SRP. WHAT A SCUMS! DON'T YOU HAVE YOUR OWN AGENDA TO DO GOOD DEED FOR THE PEOPLE AS WELL AS FOR THE COUNTRY.
Khmer so unfortunate! When are we going to learn anything about the interest of the people and the country?
To 12:40 PM
Well said! Cambodian people borned to this Earth are very unfortunate to be led by some fuck up leaders who had no value or vision for the people and the nation!
I just know when Cambodian people can move beyond the misery that they are going through right now!
Some people said it will take one generation until all these fuck up leaders to die out! Some people said it will take a vote to get rid of them!
2008 election is approaching fast and the way thing go right now it will never going to change for the better even by voting! I believe something got to happen after 2008 election for bad or for worst Cambodia as a country must change!
Kem Sokha has stripes against him now:
1-Infidelity plus plush villa for mistress/es,loyalty question?
2-Lopsided position when push comes to shove, integrity question?
3-Lackeyness syndromes attached to funding agency, transparency question?
Last, history of jumpship when big waves hit i.e PRPK/CPP to BLDP to FUNC to Benjamin Franklin party.
Like it or not jumpship is Sokha regular career since. No nationalism in him but pure extra virgin opportunism only.
Wait and see,OK?
It is really sad and very disappointed after seeing such unwise and destructive comment from Kem Sokha about Sam Rainsy. You should be ashamed of yourself by making such comment. I am surprised that you have forgotten your past activities (ie. before you was arrested and imprisoned) so quick! Remember, a lot of demonstrations organised in the recent years by SRP you were there as well...
We welcomed you warmly in a very respective way when you were in Australia early this year, because we thought you were one of the good leaders. Please rethink of your future political platform.

I think Kem Sokha lost the plot! Can someone help him, please?
Comment made by him about Sam Rainsy was unbelievable!

Kim Sokha is too proud of himself after the release from prison. He might think the U.S. will always be with him or help him. He now attacts RS because RS can not put him in prison.
Sokha lost his mind and he needs a treatment.......
