Around 50 police officers have been stationed inside Tonle Bassac's Village 15 in Phnom Penh to prevent people from resettling on land cleared of residents as part of the municipality's plan to allow a private firm to develop the land, officials said. Police destroyed more than 20 tents Wednesday night and have now deployed full-time to the village, district police chief Uch Sophon said Sunday. Around 100 families who previously rented accommodation in Village 15 say they have nowhere to live and have tried to set up makeshift homes on the cleared land.
