11 F'pec Officials Urge Prince Ranariddh’s Return

Eleven senior Funcinpec officials have voiced their support for party President Prince Norodom Ranariddh returning to Cambodia and continuing the party's cooperation with Prime Minister Hun Sen's ruling CPP. The 11 also said in a statement Tuesday that they would support Prince Ranariddh allowing the embattled Nhiek Bun Chhay to remain in his position as party secretary-general. "We are pleased to hear that the prince will return to the country soon and has decided to continue the cooperation alliance with the CPP and especially Samdech Hun Sen," the officials said. The 11 include Senior Minister Serei Kosal and Ok Socheat, the prince's public affairs adviser, Chea Chanboribo, the prince's spokesman and also a signatory to the statement said the prince will return soon, as the party has resolved its internal disputes. Funcinpec issued a statement Saturday denying earlier reports that the prince had invited the Sam Rainsy Party to form an "Alliance of Nationalists" ahead of the 2008 election.
