Project: Cambodian American Opera, “Where Elephants Weep”, project
Time: Sept 1, 2006 – May 11, 2007
Status: Part time: 20 –25 hours a week, $20-25 per hour; no benefit?
Summary:
Under the general direction of the Co-Chairs and its collaborative partners along with committee members, this position assists in the planning, developing, organizing and implementing of the 2 ½ weeks residency of the Cambodian American Opera, “Where Elephants Weep”, to be debuted in April 2007 in Lowell, Massachusetts during the fourth annual Cambodian Expressions festival and the annual Cambodian American New Year Celebration.
The Project Coordinator plans and organizes all facets of the Opera’s activities including, but not limited to, artistic production, logistic, funding/financial, public relations, marketing/ticket, educational and community relations, volunteers, governmental and institutional committees, etc.
Specific responsibilities:
- Coordinate all aspects of logistics for artists residency, rehearsal, performances
- Work with different committees of fundraising, public relations, marketing, ticket sell, educational programming, community relations governmental and institutional committees
- Serve act as a liaison and point of contact person with project partners, sponsors, funders
- Work with and develop all necessary public relations materials for the Opera
- Provide coordination and supervision to all crew members, volunteers
- Attend meetings and take meeting minutes
- Prepares reports and memo related to the opera project to all partners and funders
- Will perform other duties deemed necessary by the Co-Chairs and committee members
- Experience in special event planning, organizing and production
- Extensive experience in the development, implementation and management of artistic activities, special events, and/or collaborative project
- Excellent oral and written communications skills; meeting facilitation skill as well as evaluation
- Bilingual (English & Khmer) most preferable and Southeast Asian cultural competency is necessary; Knowledge of local educational institutions and governmental agencies is a plus
- Experience working with diversity, business community as well as foundations
