Sam Rainsy Party (SRP) can just forget about the idea of any future ALLIANCE with any party. The era of alliance is over. The Party has already established its own identity and firmly secured its place in Cambodian mainstream politics. Ranariddh should stop making fool of himself, trying to advertise a new old idea about his "Alliance of Nationalists", making speculations about a possible alliance and meeting between leaders. He let it be known that the door of this pitiful alliance is open to SRP and CPP. The offer is unattractive. With Sam Rainsy solidly in a comfortable seat as sole leader of the Opposition Party, Funcinpec remains with the emptiness.
Rather than being confused, Ranariddh is so desperate right now. The party he once led, is no longer under his control, and is under constant internal fighting. The defection is fast happening and out of control, He himself was forced out of his position in the most dishonorable way. He has no one else to blame, but himself.
Funcinpec again tries to mislead the public that idea is promoted in the spirit of "National Reconciliation" (Cambodia daily 07/31/2006). But everyone knows that the only spirit Ranariddh successfully brought for Cambodia was "National Corruption" which started since 1993 right after he came to power.
When Pol Pot came to power, he issued to his victorious Khmer Rouge " this directive: "To keep you is no benefit, to kill you is no deficit". This powerful directive led to mass graves everywhere in Cambodia.
Similarly, in 1993 Ranariddh conveyed a message to Funcinpec members that "the party has brought you from the jungle to the city now, the party is poor, it is time for you to take care of the party". If Ranariddh and Funcinpec were to rule without sharing power, it would not be any better than what is known in Cambodia now: Corruption, Corruption, and Corruption.
King father who often characterizes Funcinpec as pitiful, should interfere to stop his son from doing more harm to Royal family reputation already tainted. If plan A fails, he would go with plan B to create "Samdach Krom Preah Ranariddh Party". If he is lucky he will get one seat somewhere, but definitely not in Phnom Penh. This time, it will be called "Self immolation".
Ranariddh should publicly apologize to people he deceives, and those who are now left in the cold without a future, and properly bury the defunct Funcinpec deep in history. This appears to be an honorary act to take, and a graceful exit.

You have made a very good picture of Rannarith. He deserve now to be stripped from all his honorary tile. Eg Instead of Samdech Krom preah to animal krom preth!!!!!
A more interesting question is why SRP is still entertaining the idea of the alliance.
