Complications arising from internal disputes within the Funcinpec party continue while the party president remains absent from the country.
On Friday 04 August, local newspapers have reported that Nhiek Bun Chhay, the secretary-general of the Funcinpec party, was forced to resign from his party position.
The reports indicated that the resignation was demanded because Mr. Nhiek Bun Chhay who occupies the senior position of vice-prime minister in the government, is still holding his position as secretary-general of the party.
Some Funcinpec officials have indicated their mistrust on General Nhiek Bun Chhay, and accused him of having (too close) relationships with prime minister Hun Sen of the CPP party, and that Nhiek Bun Chhay is always following the orders of CPP officials.
General Nhiek Bun Chhay discussed about the opinions of a group of Funcinpec officials who only see his bad side, however, the general stressed that he will not resign on his own from his position as secretary-general of the party.
Nhiek Bun Chhay said: “During the trip to Malaysia, I raised the issue that, if those people who want to pull out of the government (alliance), and if there is an agreement on this idea, then I ask that a new secretary-general of the party be selected because I do not agree with the pullout (of Funcinpec from the government alliance with the CPP). I believe that the cooperation (with the CPP) is important. Furthermore, the number of votes obtained by Funcinpec does not depend on whether the secretary-general is involved or not (in a government position), there are several other issues which need reform.”
Funcinpec internal disputes is always flaring up without any end in sight, especially since March after the departure of Prince Ranariddh from Cambodia to live overseas.
Up to now, no one can confirm the official return date of Prince Ranariddh.

No surprise that Nhiek Bun Chhay is the alliance dog for CPP and FUNCI along time. I think no one cares whether FUNCI still with CPP or not. All FUNCI are CPP anyway.
