Opposition leader Sam Rainsy and a Cambodian border expert in France are reacting to oppose the plan proposed by the Cambodian government leader and the Thai leader to sign an agreement on the joint commercial oil exploration along overlapped sea waters.
Sam Rainsy, opposition leader, reacted by saying on Wednesday 09 August that he will not recognize it: “We lost a lot of land and maritime territories already. Now, Thailand and Vietnam are taking over a lot of Cambodia’s waters. I am calling our government to properly defend the Cambodian interest, and not just think only about some small commercial gain. Right now, [the government] should think about defending Cambodia’s land and maritime territories to preserve for future generations in the next hundreds, thousands of years to come.”
Sean Pengse, president of the Cambodia’s Border Committee gave his reaction from France by phone to RFA: “Nowadays, an area of 30,000 square kilometers is under dispute, and the 30,000 square kilometers belong to Cambodia, they do not belong to the Thai. If we take our property and share it with others, it is the same as taking our wealth and give it to others. It belongs to Cambodia.”
The above reactions were expressed before prime minister Hun Sen and Thaksin Shinawatra, the Thai caretaker prime minister, are planning to sign a bilateral agreement on joint commercial oil exploration in overlapped waters regions, as well as the resolution of border issues, which will take place during Thaksin’s one day visit to Cambodia on 10 August.
According to Soorapak Sooparat, the charge d’affaire of the Thai embassy in Cambodia, the leaders of the Cambodian and Thai governments will sign a bilateral agreement to increase joint developments, and resolving border issues as well as sea waters dispute between the two countries in order to move to joint oil exploration.
Var Kim Hong, president of the government joint border committee, said in regards to the ability of joint oil exploration in overlapped zones: “The overlapped zones are not white zones which we discussed with the Thai since 2001, we signed (the agreement), vice-prime minister Sok An signed with Thoeur Yuth in 2001.”
According to information provided by the Cambodian ministry of foreign affairs, Thaksin will visit on 10 August, will also meet prime minister Hun Sen, and have an audience with King Norodom Sihamoni also.
The two parties will sign an agreement for loan by Thailand to build national road no. 67 linking Choam Sam Ngam to Anlong Veng and continuing to Siemreap.
Thaksin’s visit will coincide with the ratification, on Friday of last week, on the actual installation of border markers between Cambodia and Thailand, and also between Cambodia and Vietnam.

The Siam and the Vietcong are in such a hurry to wrap up all border treaty before 2008 election. Why in such a hurry? Cambodia is going nowhere!
AH HUN SEN keep forgeting that he is not the one that own Cambodia! Cambodian people will see who own Cambodia after 2008 election! All the fucken illegal treaties will be put before AH HUN SEN and AH HUN SEN will be sent off to the firing squad!
AH HUN SEN father and mother teach AH HUN SEN to sign illegal treaties to take advantage of Cambodia and so that Cambodian people can have peace? Fuck you and fuck your mother and father and fuck your whole generation!
Tell me AH HUN SEN! Do you feel any more safe after singing the illegal treaties with Cambodian enemies? Do you ever go for a walk and smell the fresh air or Are you still in ROUNG KLA all day guarded by the Vietcong double agents! How many airplanes and helicopters standy by outside ROUNG KLA? HOw many pack of cigaret do smoke in aday because of all the stress? I am begining to see your future clearly and your future is fading away fast and I can't seem to make it out!
These days you are so busy trying to make yourself look good by showing up at inauguration of many small finished projects led by international community! Now tell me what have you finish any project for Cambodia and Cambodian people? (Beside all the schools that bear your name and no qualify teachers to teach)
According to FENG SHUI, If you want to be a very important person with great respect from the people, You better look in the mirror more often and the more you look at yourself the more important you will become. But there is one problem that you have! The mirror that you look at yourself everyday is not even a real mirror but a fake one. So this mean you never see the real you! The real mirror is the Cambodian people and you refused to accept what you have seen in the mirror! I know how you feel and you feel like a fake leader that you had seen in the fake mirror. How could you go on torturing yourself like this?
Mirror! Mirror! Mirror on the wall said the way you go up to power is the same way you come back down from power!
Dear SRP,
I respect your patriotic & noble comment. But be known that the powerful neighbors such as Thai and VN will make sure that SRP won't be a majority of Cambodian politic, so that any of SRP members can't be Prime minister of Cambodia for years to come.
Bravo Bravo
This is an excellent & noble comment.I am very like it.Now stop blame VN/Thai for theirs ambitious. We are talking how to get rid of this guy.Only Cambodian people can direct our country destination no one else.So please open a website and contact each others to find a solution for our mother land.We need to have a people like you (first KI comment on this section)to take a lead of this compaign.Since KI open a comment I read a lots of Khmer patriotics omments but I did not see any clear solution how to get rid of this guy. Please do now
It is very hard to get rid of Hun Sen, politically. He is a dictator in a democratic country, Whether anyone agree with me or not, that's the fact. At this time, Hun Sen is enjoying the spotlights. After being a leader for about 21 years, he's known in Cambodia as a savior. A lot of Khmer in Cambodia have said that without Hun Sen, Cambodia wouldn't be what it is today, yea..for better or for worst. Most of us who live outside Cambodia know a lot about Hun Sen. Most Khmer in Cambodia do not have the luxury of personal computer or laptop, and internet access like us to get the true facts about Hun Sen.
At this point, I think there is little we can do to change or influence of anything of politic in Cambodia, except educated ourselves and promote peace, love, and unity of anything about Khmer.
I don't think anyone can be worst than Hun Sen as far as being a leader is concern. I know he will eventually has to step down. If and when the next guy takes over, even if he was a CPP, I hope he is a lot more qualify, until then kept the complaints flowing, BUT DO WATCH THE LANGUAGES THOUGH. MOST OF US ARE FRUSTRATED BUT LET BE PREFESSIONAL ABOUT IT. WE ARE NOT KHMER ROUGE, SO LET'S NOT SOUNDED LIKE ONE.
Oh boy, what happen to the color-blind Hun sen and sick-skiny-baldhead, brainless rannannaridzzzxxx? ? ? Go to hell crazy folks!!
Dead to anyone who betrays Khmer's interests!!
MAY THAILAND BE COMPLETLY DESTROYED FOR ITS GREEDSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS and agression!
MAY VIETNAM BE SEVERELY DEMOLISHED FOR ITS GREEDSsssssssssssssss, agression and invasion our land!
MAY THE GREAT KHMER BE PROSPERED AND POWERFUL!! God bless those who work for Cambodians' interest!!
Amen!!
cambodia's government still stupid crazy with money soon and later cambodia have no name only thai and vietnam wake up Mr hun sen
THIS IS HISTORY OF CAMBODIA NEVER CHANGE VIETNAM AND THAI ALWAY WANT TO GET RID LAND OF CAMBODIA ,GOVERNMENT OF CAMBODIA THEY'RE ALL SHOULD GO TO HELL THEY ARE DESTROY CAMBODIA,I BELIEVE CAMBODIA NOT WILL LAST LONG ,IT WILL DISAPPEAR FROM WORDL MAPS
No, no, no, Cambodia will not be disappear from the map of the world. CAMBODIA WILL FOREVER EXIST. We Khmer have our root dated back since the birth of Christ or about 2,000 years, Funan and Chanla, then Khmer. We will be around for another 2,000 years or more. It only disappears if we chose to. Let stop being hopeless, you're only destroying yourself in the process.
Cambodia is getting better everyday since April 17,1975, the day when Khmer Rouge took over Phnom Penh and began the killings. It's been along dark tunnel since but there is a light at the end of the tunnel for Cambodia. Cambodia is entering a new era. Yea..Hun Sen is still in power but we are not speaking Thai or Vietnamese or forbidden to speak Khmer in Cambodia. So, we're doing alright, maybe not as alright as we all hope but it's alright for now. We should be positive and proud of who we are, being Khmer that is. Angkor Wat is still standing. It is a symbol of great achievement through unity. Only a small number of nations past and present can achieve such greatness. We should stride for greatness if we wish to be feared and respected. LONG LIVE KHMER!!!!!!!!!
