Sam Rainsy, the opposition leader, said in the US that he is requesting the FBI to pay close attention to the declaration of Heng Pov, the former Phnom Penh police chief, regarding the 9-year-old grenade attack event which took place in front of the National Assembly and caused injuries and death to almost 200 people.
Sam Rainsy who is currently on visit in the US, said that he will meet with the US FBI services to request them to pay close attention to the declaration made by Heng Pov regarding the grenade attack 9 years ago.
Sam Rainsy who is among one of the people who safely escaped the attack caused by 4 grenades thrown during the end of March of 1997, said that he will request the FBI to meet with Heng Pov who is currently in hiding.
Sam Rainsy said: “During my visit to the US, I will take the opportunity to request the US authority, in particular, the FBI which started the investigation before, to meet with Mr. Heng Pov to discuss with him the information he revealed, and to obtain additional information in order to unmask the criminals.”
The grenade attack was perpetrated 9 years ago during a demonstration led by opposition leader Sam Rainsy. Besides the more than 200 Cambodian victims, Ron Abney, a US citizen, was also injured his legs by grenade shrapnel. This led to the involvement of the FBI in the investigation to look for the perpetrators.
According to the declaration made by Heng Pov, the attack was premeditated and ordered by Cambodian leader to curb the demonstration.
There is no information indicating from which country the fugitive Heng Pov had issued his declaration. However, Cambodian government experts believe that Heng Pov is currently in Singapore.
Keo Vanthan, deputy chief of the [Cambodian] Interpol, declared yesterday, that people are waiting for a few more days for Heng Pov’s visa to expire.
Keo Vanthan said: “We are waiting to see 3 more days before Heng Pov’s visa to expire, and if there is anything, they (Singapore authority) will take care of it then. They promise to cooperate with us.”
David Chen, Heng Pov’s lawyer, recently told the Cambodia Daily newspaper that Heng Pov plan on issuing more declarations regarding the past misdeeds perpetrated [by high ranking officials] in Cambodia.

Good move Sam Rainsy. If the justice is found, the victims of grenade attack can live in peace.
I would urge all Khmer to support Mr. Sam Rainsy’s requested to get the American FBI to step-into this matter. This is our only hope to have Mr. Heng Pov reveal more darkness and most heinous crimes committed by the current corrupted regime of Cambodia.
I would also request and support for the US to grant Mr. Heng Pov a visa to relocate him to a safe place for questioning and due process of his allegations of criminality against senior government leaders of Cambodia.
I will be surprise if the FBI haven't jump on this matter already. If the FBI doesn't care about what Heng Pov Cambodian corrupted police chief have to say then the door is wide open for AH HUN SEN regime to commit more crime and more terrorist acts against Cambodian people!!
I would like to make a highly request to the US government to pay a close look into the drug trafficking in Cambodia that led by a dictator and his right hand and take a serious action to punish them as soon as quickly.
Dear World, if you want to help Cambodia, you should help now, you do investigation of killing, human right voilation, drug dealing of Cambodian gavernment now, please don't follow old style by waiting to see thoses involved die, than you set up judge like Khmer rough...start now so Cambodian can live in the same life as other countries....
It seems the opposition is again playing the game it is not likely to win.

The opposition is looking for justice for the crime committed by the Cambodian government. Seeking justice is not playing game. Whether he's going to succeed or not that remains to be seen. At least he's trying.
I need to see a universal fair treatment to HP, not Cambodian nor Singaporean types, but HP case proceeding should be internationally acceptable. Based on International Transfer of Prisoners's Act, a prisoner would be sent back to his/her home country unless there are tripartite consents, i.e. the consent of the transferring and the receiving countries, and that of the prisoner him or herself. I hope Singaporean Authority would use the Act as its ground for further actions.
