According to a report from a reliable source which is closely knowledgeable in the affair, it was learnt that there are two currents that are competing to get a hold of Heng Pov following the report of his arrest by the Singapore authorities on the evening of Thursday 31 August.
One of the current trying to get a hold of Heng Pov is the Cambodian authorities who want Heng Pov handed to the Cambodian government, and a foreign current which does not want to see the deportation of Heng Pov to Cambodia. This last current also wants to push to have Heng Pov receiving asylum in a third country.
In the evening of this past Friday, a report indicated that the Singapore authorities had sent Heng Pov out by plane in destination to Malaysia, its neighbor.
Singapore and Cambodia does not have extradition agreement between each other.
There is no clear indication as to why Singapore deported Heng Pov out its country, however expert indicated that the competition between the two currents to get a hold of Heng Pov was the cause of Heng Pov’s deportation by the Singaporean authorities.
Heng Pov is accused by the Cambodian authorities of involvement in a number of criminal activities. Recently, a new accusation has been added to his case for his involvement in the arrest and ransom demand from 6 South Korean nationals.
From overseas, Heng Pov has released statements denying the accusations made against him, claiming that he was a witness who knows about a number of unsolvable crimes, such as the grenade attack in March 1997.
Up to Friday evening, no one knows which organization is taking care of Heng Pov after he was deported from Singapore to Malaysia. Furthermore, it is not known which of the 2 competing currents is stronger than the other to get a hold of Heng Pov.
