Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen on Thursday held talks with visiting Lao Prime Minister Bouasone Bouphavanh. Both leaders agreed to further strengthen their cooperation in the fields of politics, economy, trade, culture and tourism.

During the meeting, the two premiers briefed each other on political and economic situations in their respective countries.

Bouasone Bouphavanh spoke highly of the progress achieved by the Cambodian government under the leadership of Prime Minister Hun Sen. He expressed hope to further strengthen the mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries.

Moreover, both leaders expressed their confidence that the remaining issues of border demarcation between the two countries will be finished soon, and determined to make their common border a peace and friendship one in order to benefit the two countries and two peoples.

Hun Sen called on the two countries to boost cooperation in preventing the spread of bird flu as well as in combating crimes such as forestry and environment destruction along their common borders. The two premiers also agreed to open flights between Cambodia's Siem Reap and Lao's Luang Prabang as early as possible in an effort to promote tourism.

Bouasone Bouphavanh, who headed a high-level delegation, arrived here on Thursday afternoon to pay a three-day official visit at the invitation of his Cambodian counterpart Hun Sen.

It is Bouasone Bouphavanh's first trip to Cambodia since he was elected prime minister in June.

Bouasone Bouphavanh was welcomed by Hun Sen and other government officials and foreign diplomatic envoys at the Phnom Penh International Airport.

During his visit, Bouasone Bouphavanh will be received in royal audience by King Norodom Sihamoni and will pay courtesy calls on Senate President Chea Sim and National Assembly President Heng Samrin, according to the Foreign Ministry.

Bouasone Bouphavanh and his entourage will also visit the world well-known Angkor Wat temples in Siem Reap, more than 300 km north of the capital.
