French lawyer Jacques Verges just spent five days in Phnom Penh to prepare for the defense of Khieu Samphan, the former head of state of the “Democratic Kampuchea.” The trial for genocide and crimes against humanity of the Khmer Rouge should be opened starting June 2007. About ten of the former senior officials from the communist dictatorship, most of them in the seventies and eighties, will be judged by the tribunal which will hear 150 witnesses, some of whom will be coming from overseas. Between 1975 and 1979, the genocide in Cambodia killed almost 2 million people.

Well, at a glance yes. he does look like H. Kissenger. But deep down inside, he is Kissinger, ish. One gave Cambodia away to the Viets (Paris accord) and the other played a role of a bystander when The Viets and Saloth Sar (Pol Pot, brother #1) ordered the cleansing of over 2 millions of Khmer race.

Je crois que ce monstre Khieu Samphan va certainement lui (Me VERGES) payer avec l’argent qui a volé et pillé du peuple khmer. Il faudrait que le tribunal international vérifie de très près d’où viennent les fonds de ce monstre KHIEU Samphan et bande d’assassin.
Il faut que ce monstre KHieu Samphan restitue cet argent au peuple khmer.

Legal and political implications . . if the defense counsel is able to provide the best legal defense strategy for Khieu Samphan and the Extraordinary Chambers of KRT/International Community guarantee and willing to provide the witness protection program for Khieu Samphan and Nuon Chea, "the water would definitely be clear . . . therefore, we would be able to see the fish swimming around"
KHIEU SAMPHAN AND NUON CHEA HAD INDICATED FROM TIMES THAT THEY WOULD TELL THE TRUTH IF THEY GET THE CHANCE. (THE VIETS ARE SECRETLY PLANNING TO DO SOMETHING TO KHIEU SAMPHAN AND NUON CHEA QUICK TO SHUT THEM UP).
In recent past, we were all witnessed what was really happened to "Ta Mok" - We were supposely to get some hard evidence from Ta Mok, but unfortunately, Ah Yuon murdered him before he could spit out some bitter truth.
Caveat: majority of so-called Khmer "Tor Sue" were specially recruited by Hanoi Gov't. from South Vietnam; born within the same region, Tra Vinh, within 10 miles from each other. Those that vowed against their top order principles had been killed. Those had vowed to follow their orders were lived luxuriously and died at old age. So far the only one that still alive, received government immunity, and has all the privileges is Ieng Sary; HE WAS ALSO PROBABLY THE LAST ONE FROM SOUTH VIETNAM.
Khieu Samphan and Noun Chea were Khmer and born in Cambodia - The Viets definitely hate them - in order to shut them up, they would be killed any day and any time soon.
HOW COULD ONE BETTER LEAD WHEN YOUR OWN LEADER HAD BETRAYED YOU AND MAJORITY OF YOUR SUBORDINATES WERE ALL VIETS SPIES?
THE FRENCH SENDS ONE OF THEIR BEST LEGAL DEFENSE ATTORNEY TO DEFENSE KHIEU SAMPHAN BECAUSE OF THE "GUILT" THEY HAVE HAD - HENCE: KHIEU SAMPHAN WAS ONE OF THEIR PRODUCTS - THE GOOD ONE. I PERSONALLY BELIEVE THAT THE FRENCH GOVN'T WOULD NOT FAIL THIS ONE TO AH YUON; WHERE AS, TA MOK, HAD A DEFENSE ATTORNEY FROM HUN SEN/YUON - ENED UP DEAD WITHIN TWO SHORT WEEKS.

Whatever you guys do please do not mispell "Manosh" because I was told that native khmer SIEMREAP pronounces the word MANOSH as if it was MANIRSH (human)..so SOMLAR MA CHOU MANIRSH could be very very very scary...lolz j/k.

Yep, high-power lawyer comes with high-price tag. Lawyers work on green inspiration. They [lawyers] need an indispensable witness, which is Mr. Green$$. Withou Mr. Green$$ the case has no hope of going distance.
Khieu Samphan is not a rich man. [He] is neither a schedule A client nor a franchise client. However, he is very fortunate that the French government is picking up the big tap for him.
But I feel obligate without elaborating my stand on this important political issues. This is not about how much Jacques Verges getting paid for his legal services. This is about the French Govn't trying to do an utmost honorable duty for the French and for their country - SAVING FACE.
Historical, French had been having the important keys to unlock the RUSTY LOCK that Kampuchea had been carrying. When they settled in on Southeast Asian soil, they (French) thought that the Viets were the honest and trustworthy people. They had invested time, money, and lives to help fostered the Viets - restored political and ecomony, built schools, helped promote the Viets to work in the government systems, and even appointed Viets to run other SEA countries such as Kampuchea and Lao. But the French did not know any vicious side of the Viets - they [Viets] secretly organized communist cliques to defeat the French; and the Viets did slaughter the French.
Viet used to SOMPUNG OF RUSSIA.

When they splitted up as NV & SV in 1960's, Viet used the South to sleep with the American.
Vietnam war - took 55,000 American GI lives.
Now that the NV & SV are united, they are trying to sleep with American again.
Politically, I think the world definitely has learned something about these VIETS.
