French filmmaker Daniel Laine on Tuesday dismissed allegations that he had defamed two Cambodian women in his 2003 documentary about sex tourism, calling their complaints lodged at the Phnom Penh Municipal Court "a huge lie." The women filed defamation lawsuits Monday seeking $50,000 in damages each from Inline for allegedly falsely depicting them as prostitutes in his documentary aired on French television. Laine, whose passport has been confiscated by Cambodia police, said he portrayed the women in an accurate light, and that they both knew they were being filmed. "Anybody can complain against me now. It's very easy to ask for $50,000. What can I do?" He added that police are still holding his passport and preventing him from leaving Cambodia.
