PHNOM PENH, Sept 5 (Reuters) - Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen has accused members of the country's National Olympic Committee of freeloading, and vowed to divert any funds raised for the sports body to the Red Cross instead.
His major gripe concerned the bloated entourage that travelled to overseas events, which he said frequently outnumbered the competitors.
"I am going to stop helping them," Hun Sen said at a rice planting ceremony in the southeastern province of Svay Rieng on Tuesday.
"I have launched fund-raising campaigns to support the Olympic committee, but they spent it all over the place -- nearly $1 million."
The funding freeze is likely to lengthen the odds of athletes from the impoverished southeast Asian nation, which is still recovering from Pol Pot's "Killing Fields" genocide, mounting the winners' podium in the international arena.
To date, one of its few sporting highlights was winning a silver medal in the women's petanque at the 2005 South East Asian Games in the Philippines.
Cambodia missed its turn to host the regional games in 2003 because its 1950s national stadium -- optimistically called the Olympic Stadium -- had fallen into disrepair during nearly three decades of civil war.
Hun Sen announced in March that it would also skip staging the event in 2011 due to prohibitive costs.

Instead of closing football activities because of monies stolen by Rannarith, Hun Sen must send Rannarith to court to repay this monies instead to the federation of Cambodian football. What a primitif ideas?

Hmm, we've got one secret admirer of Queen Bun Rany here!;-) If anyone has seen the billboard on Russian Federation Boulevard, near TV5 Station, Queen Bun Rany is pictured along side the Queen-Mother Monineath on the poster, except Queen Bun Rany looks bigger. This is to say to the public who is really in charge of the Cambodian Red Cross and the country, as far as head of the Cambodian female population is concerned. She sold one of the Cambodian Red Cross sites on Norodom Boulevard. Both Hun Sen and Bun Rany oversee the sale of many state properties, but the public doesn't know where the money has gone.
King Hun Sen and Queen Bun Rany have hundreds millions of dollars in overseas banks, but they are not satisfied with the amount of their blood money yet. Any institutions that seem to get good financial support but not under their direct control are all at risk. They can shut down any institutions they don't like, ruin the lives of the people who get in their way, and plunder Cambodia's resources like their own little garden. Their greed has no limit.
Last night I have a dream of Bunrany Hun sen being shot by a bodyguard for a revenge. This bodyguard has angered on her for stealing his father lands in Kg Speu. I saw she was lying in a pool of blood. She was wearing axactly the same white sirt as in this photo. Good for Cambodia people because she will be gone from stealing Cambodian wealth again and again. Her death means Cambodian will be spared from sufferings.
