Bangkok - Lao Airlines on Sunday announced the launch of direct flights between Luang Prabang, the ancient capital, and Siem Reap, site of Cambodia's famed Ankor Wat temple, Radio Vientiane said.
The new route, designed to boost international tourism to the two cities, was an outcome of Lao Prime Minister Bouasone Bouphavanh's visit Wednesday to Phnom Penh, said the state-run radio in a broadcast monitored in Bangkok.
During his state visit, Bouphavanh toured the UNESCO world heritage site Angkor Wat temple complex in the northern province of Siem Reap, more than 300 kilometres north of Phnom Penh.
Luang Prabang, Laos' former capital, is famed for its royal palaces, Buddhist wats, French colonial architecture and easy-going atmosphere.
