Prince Norodom Ranariddh, Funcinpec president, requested that Nhiek Bun Chhay, Funcinpec secretary-general, meets to discuss with Say Chhum, after prime minister Hun Sen declared on 17 Sept that he is removing 4 Funcinpec officials from their government positions. On his part, King-Father renewed his declaration for his support for Hun Sen in his position as prime minister and as national elader.

In a letter dated 18 Sept, Prince Ranariddh explained that the reason he asked Nhiek Bun Chhay to urgently meet Say Chhum, president of the permanent committee of the CPP central committee, is based on the cooperation agreement between the two partiers for the third term government. The meeting will strengthen the working cooperation between the two parties and to preserve the continuity of the royal government.

Ok Socheat, senior advisor to Prince Ranariddh said that this letter was already sent to Nhiek Bun Chhay. He also indicated that Prince Ranariddh will return back to Cambodia after his health visit abroad on 18 Sept. Nevertheless, there was no indication whether the prince could make a last minute change [to his returning trip].

King Norodom Sihanouk had urgently issued a statement on the night of 17 Sept declaring his position to support and to always support Hun Sen in his position as government leader and national leader, as well as the CPP which the King considers as “the best party among the political parties of Cambodia.” The King also said that he will now stop giving $600 per month to Prince Thomico. King-Father has expelled Prince Thomico from the Royal Palace also.
