Cambodia short of fund, trainers to promote fencing

October 19, 2006

Shortage of fund and trainers has prevented the kingdom from promoting fencing among youngsters although they like the game very much, Meas Sarin, senior official at the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Cambodia, told Xinhua by phone on Thursday.

There are a lot of Cambodian students wanting to learn this sport, but the NOC just can't help them realize their dreams, he said.

"We can't even support an instructor who came here recently from China to help us develop the game and have to tell her to go back to her country," he added.

The International Olympic Committee has allocated fund, but it is far from enough, he said.

"In Cambodia, we have only three to four coaches and they are old. In addition, they are busy working at other places, so they can't help," he said.

"We expect there will be more sponsors for Cambodian students and foreign coaches," he said.
