KUALA LUMPUR: Heng Pov, the former adviser to Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen, who tried to seek political asylum here to avoid extradition, was arrested yesterday.
Once a Phnom Penh police chief, Heng Pov, who is in his early 50s, was nabbed at an undisclosed location in the Klang Valley for overstaying.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan confirmed the arrest.
Sources said the Cambodian Embassy had been informed.
He is expected to face charges under the Immigration Act. It remains unclear, however, whether he will be extradited to Cambodia where he was recently sentenced to 18 years’ jail in absentia on a murder charge, be sent to a third country or held here until his immigration charge is disposed of.
He fled Cambodia when a Phnom Penh court started proceedings against him and several others for the murder of a judge and other crimes.
Heng Pov, who lost a leg to a gunshot wound 10 years ago, made his way to Malaysia, where he sought treatment at a prosthesis centre off Jalan Klang Lama.
After several days, he proceeded to Singapore, where he remained until the end of August. He was arrested for overstaying and was escorted to the Causeway.
He was allowed 30 days’ stay in Malaysia and this expired over the weekend.
Last week, the NST reported that Heng Pov may seek asylum in his bid to avoid extradition to Cambodia.
Heng Pov was convicted in absentia on Sept 18 for his role in the 2003 murder of municipal court judge Sok Setha Mony. He is also alleged to have been involved in the attempted murder of a newspaper publisher, a prosecutor, the national military chief and city council officials in Cambodia.

Malaysian police and/or Malaysian Government, if you send HENG Pov back to Cambodia (to the Mafia Government), it means that you are also a part of the Mafia group.
Please study in detail about the HUN Sen's Government.
SAVE! SAVE! SAVE Heng Pov!
As one of Cambodian, I would call for Malaysian Government as well as International Communities to keep Heng Pov in safe. Even thought once he used to be a Phnom Penh Police Chief in Hun Sen’s dictatorship Administrative, but we all are not sure what behind Heng Pov and who orders Heng Pov to do so.
If you all are democratic countries and wish Cambodian people to live in peace, please make sure Heng pov’s security. He is very very important key person for fighting the Cambodian Mafia Government. Vietnamese-Installed Hun Sen, Vietnamese secret agent Hok Lang Yuon (Hok Lang Dy), and their companions won’t let Heng Pov survive and they will kill Heng Pov as soon as he arrives in, because Heng Pov knows much about their dirty jobs.
I am very concern about Heng Pov’s security, because he is very useful for finding out the Mafia and terrorists in Cambodia and in the region as well as in the world.
I strongly hope that the Malaysian Government won’t send Heng Pov back to violent leader, Hun Sen.
