PHNOM PENH - A Cambodian wife was in custody after allegedly stabbing her husband to death as the two bickered over their daughter’s wedding and engagement schedule, police said on Tuesday.

The police chief of Phnom Srouch district in southern Kampong Speu province, Toy Ton, said husband Chom Chun, 47, put his foot down and said his daughter should not take up a job at a garment factory now that she was engaged to be married but his wife, Kov Sokha, 44, disagreed, saying they needed the money.

“The father said the daughter should stay at home now she was ready to be someone’s wife and prepare for the wedding. Sokha objected, so he ignored her and started to eat his dinner, which is when she apparently stabbed him,” Ton said.

He said Chun died of a stab wound to the chest inflicted with a large knife for splicing palm tree leaves. If convicted Sokha faces 10 to 20 years in prison for Saturday’s attack. The name and age of the daughter was not released.
