A Banteay Meanchey provincial government official said Monday that he would seek to clear his name after Thai authorities last week accused him of illegally entering their country and accepting stolen property. Duong Sophannareth, a provincial cabinet official who oversees Cambodian vendors in a Thai market, was arrested Oct 23 in Thailand and released, but rearrested two days later for allegedly receiving a stolen car and entering Thailand illegally. He was released on bail and allowed to return to Cambodia on Thursday. "Now I am struggling to win my reputation back," Duong Sophannareth said by telephone, adding that he was innocent of any wrongdoing.
