On 12 Oct, Cambodian people living in the south of the capital, Canberra, Australia, came out to raise banners asking the Royal Cambodian Government to change its policy.
These Australian citizens of Cambodian origin waited for the arrival of Hun Sen and his delegation in front of a hotel, however Hun Sen was taken [through the back entrance] so that he could not see the protesters.
RFA’s Hassan talked over the phone about the demonstration with Mr. Bak Long, one of the protest organizers, who said that members of Hun Sen’s delegation lack respect for the demonstrators by taking pictures of the face of each demonstrator.
Mr. Bak Long said: “There are about 40 participants in the demonstration, they held banners in silence and waited for the arrival of the delegation and prime minister Hun Sen since 5:30 PM. The demonstrators stood in front of all entrances, when they saw that, they made Hun Sen enter through the back door. The [Hun Sen] delegation included reporters and TV cameramen who probably came from Phnom Penh, they had on them small cameras and they stood taking pictures of each protester. This irritated the protesters who yelled to them to take pictures of their banners rather than their faces.”

On 11 October 2006, SBS World News at 6:30pm and repeated again on 9:30pm broadcasted (approx. 2 minutes) about Hun Sen's trip to Australia and highlighted his involvement during Khmer Rouge's regime. It was clearly mentioned that many Cambodian-Australian were not happy with him but fear to speak publicly because they still want to visit their beloved country and also still have relatives in Cambodia. Nevertheless, one gentleman has clearly stated that “Hun Sen is a CRIMINAL and he is responsible for the death of many Cambodian people.” This excellence works because millions of Australian watches the World News daily.
I am proud of you those who participated in demonstration and the gentleman appeared on SBS World News.
