Chinese vice FM calls on former Cambodian King

Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Dai Bingguo on Monday visited former Cambodian King Norodom Sihanouk, who is in Beijing for a routine medical check, on behalf of Chinese President Hu Jintao.
Tuesday will be Sihanouk's 84th birthday.

Dai conveyed Hu's birthday greetings and regards and praised Sihanouk's outstanding contributions to promoting China-Cambodia relations.

"China attaches great importance to Sino-Cambodian friendship and will continue support the Cambodian government and its people to maintain stability and develop the economy," he said.

Sihanouk thanked Dai and asked him to convey a letter of thanks to Hu.

He said the Cambodian royal family, government and people thanked the Chinese government for its long support of Cambodia's sovereignty and national construction.

He and King Norodom Sihamoni valued relations with China and supported the Cambodian government, under the leadership of Hun Sen, in deepening friendship and cooperation with China.
