Statement
The inauguration of the start for the installation of border markers organized by the Cambodian and Vietnamese governments on 27 September 2006 shed new light to the fact that the Cambodian government ceded between 4,000 to 6,000 square kilometers of land territories to Vietnam, as well as several tens of thousand of square kilometers of Cambodian maritime territories. The border delineation in areas which the Cambodian government used to claim as “white” zones – zones that are in dispute [between the two countries] – are now legally turned into Vietnamese territories according to the Supplemental Treaty and the current installation of border markers.
This historical action was not performed according to the will of the Cambodian people as the government claimed. To the contrary, this action caused Cambodian people living along the current border to lose their farmlands and their dwellings because of the Vietnamese aggression and the subservience of a number of Cambodian leaders who are serving the policy and the interest of Vietnam.
The Cambodian Watchdog Council International (CWCI) deeply regrets the assassination of the nation perpetrated by the current government of Cambodia, we are totally condemning the government and anyone who participate in this national treachery.
CWCI calls all Cambodian people, organizations, associations both inside and outside the country, and in particular the victims who are living along the border, to oppose and to organize opposition to the installation of these border makers which are not conforming to the maps of Cambodia deposited at the United Nations between 1963 and 1969, in order to defend Cambodian territorial integrity.
CWCI reserves the right to demand back the territories lost at a time when Cambodia will have a government which truly serves Cambodian interest.
