The Government of Denmark has offered USD 6.65 million grant for Cambodia to upgrade its land management.
The fund aims to help the government prepare land titles and documents for its people as well as protect and develop natural resources in rural areas. The budget will also be used to organize land law and policy from 2007 to 2010.
Due to years of war and turmoil, most Cambodians haven't procured clear land titles since 1979, thus causing many problems and even leading to fighting and death. There are nearly 400 cases of land conflicts in the country each year.
Meanwhile, the land price has increased by 30 to 50 percent in the past years and one average square meter of land in Phnom Penh currently costs about 800 U.S. dollars to 1,500 U.S. dollars, according to official figures.
