Formation of the Government of Kampuchea-Krom in Exile

WASHINGTON, D.C., October 1, 2006 – The continuing quest for independence, freedom and justice of the indigenous Khmer-Krom people has entered a new phase: The official formation of the Government of Kampuchea-Krom in Exile (GKE). Mr. Thach Chanh has been unanimously nominated Prime Minister of this government.

The French National Assembly and French government ceded her colonial authority in Cochin China (Kampuchea-Krom) to Vietnamese colonial authority on the 4th of June 1949 without any consent of the Khmer-Krom people – whose land was overrun by France’s colonial armies in 1859. This irresponsible and shameless act of France and Vietnam has entailed endless suffering for millions of the Khmer-Krom people both in the past and up to today. During 57 years under Vietnamese colonization, social inequality, injustice, racism and double-standard treatment are undeniably apparent. Khmer cultural assimilation and Khmer language alteration have been policies of all Vietnamese regimes.

Many Khmer-Krom fought and died in Vietnam War because of their inspiration for freedom and democracy. Those who fought alongside the Vietcong were slaughtered in numerous Vietnamese purges in 1976 and later years. Those who fought alongside the U.S. during Vietnam War were systematically eliminated by the Communist with only a few hundred remaining. Those Khmer-Krom serving the present Vietnamese government are just puppets who protect no Khmer-Krom’s interests but only the Vietnamese Communist Party’s. Hanoi has so far done nothing but creates injustice, hatred, and misery for the Khmer-Krom people, who, in general, become poorer and poorer while the Vietnamese colonizers are richer and richer every day. No Khmer-Krom students have ever been allowed to further their education abroad. No general, lawyer, and/or Khmer-Krom professional has ever existed in Kampuchea-Krom since French times to the present day!

The GKE sincerely appeals to all Khmer-Krom people and organizations to stay united, focused, and to work together against the Vietnamese colonizer. To all international peace-and-justice-loving people, organizations, and world governments, give Khmer-Krom a chance to gain human dignity, and a chance to join the world mainstream. The mission of the Government of Kampuchea-Krom in Exile is to bring an end to the Khmer-Krom’s suffering, and to help bring political stability and peace to the region. This can be done through de-colonization of Kampuchea-Krom from Vietnam and by granting Khmer-Krom the rights to self-determination. To the government of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam: Khmer-Krom also believes that “Nothing is worth more than Independence and Freedom”, so their struggle will eventually prevail just like Vietnamese did in the last two wars.

By forming this government we mean no harm to anyone but reclaim the inherent rights that we have been deprived of, and execute the United Nations Decolonizatiom Program. The GKE will act on behalf of the Khmer-Krom people, and for the Khmer-Krom’s interests in all matters including engagements in any dialogue, negotiation, and/or agreement with other nations in the future.

please just help strenghten the official Khmer Kampuchea Krom Federation instead and stop making up nonsense. The Kampuchea Krom Federation is already pursuing the same path of decolonization hopes and self-determination. It has launched a forum late September at Holland to consult with experts of international law on the matter. It is the only official organization of the Khmer Krom people which has constantly promote peace, freedom and equal rights for Khmer Krom people based on U.N charter laws. The organization's root goes way back to the 60s and 70s though it was not recognized by UNPO til 1996.

To this day they have achieved many objectives of raising the issues of awareness and international recognition of our Khmer krom problem.
I hope that other people realized the works and fruit of the KKF federation and unite with each cause instead of each person dreaming about their own plan and beginning new separate united disperse bodies that can not act suffuciently with authority to aleviate the problem of our Khmer brothers in vietnam. The Khmer Kampuchea Krom federation has a voice in the United Nations Indeginous forums, UNPO and other international organization that can place pressure on Vietnam government to relieve our Khmer krom's suffering. Let us join hand and become a louder voice instead of splitting ourselves.

There you go! Cambodian people had been waiting for formation of the Government of Kampuchea-Krom in Exile (GKE) for along time! This is one of the basic right for all Khmer Krom!

Southern Vietname will become another Southern Thailame if the Vietcong government continue to be arrogant and disrespect for the indigenous right of the Khmer Krom people!

DIVIDE AND CONQUER:

I sincerely hope that PM Thach Chan is genuine about this whole exile government.

Does Khmer Krom now have choose between the KKF and GKE to support? I am quite concern because this sound like a familar tactic that ah youn and their student ah hun sen has mastered to Divide and Conquer. When in doubt and to confuse the people, create another party to weaken the other and then go for the kill. Not sure if ah youn is already behind this one or not, but make no mistake that they've already on top of this. We need to be extremely careful.

The Khmer Krom people don't have to choose anything. I believe more in the exile government than the government already exist with the Vietcong or Cambodian government! The exile government tend to have more independent mind where the government exist with the Vietcong or Cambodian government will definitely continue to be under the Vietcong or AH SLAVE HUN SEN influence and they will never go anywhere!

I just hope both the KKF and the GKE work for the interest of the Khmer Krom people! There should be a competition between KKF and GKE to race for the independent Khmer Krom nation!

Their compatriot! We are very welcome for the new exil government. But be carefull!! Do not learn from Animal Rannarith and evil Hun Sen to corrupt the country after you have power. THis corruption is the most important of any Cambodian officials. Corruptions have destroyed the country and the people.

Hanoi has taught Pol Pot and Hun Sen two things in two different times.
-For Pol Pot, Hanoi taught him to keep Cambodian hungry so that Cambodian people will starve to death, will not be able to run aways from masses murders, will not be able to fight back because no foods.
-Now Hanoi taugh Hun Sen to pay very meagre salaries to all governments servant so that they cannot save their monies and look for democracy. If they have short of monies for living they must listen to Hun Sen to carry his dirty works by killing his countrymen.

Whichever paths my Khmer Krom brothers and sisters choose to achieve a life-long dream of genuine independence, they have my heartfelt support. Just a note of caution. There seems to be so many groups of the Khmer Krom movement in existence. If my fellow brothers and sisters share a common goal, why not having a united front with check and balance to ensure and protect its integrity?

I share my sentiment with earlier comments about the "divide and conquer" strategy devised by Hun Sen and his Hanoi master. They may have created puppet movements so that they can spy on other genuine Khmer Krom movements and carry out a pre-emptive strike to weaken and discredit the whole organisation. It also creates distrust between different groups. The UN option will be of some help to ease the sufferings of the Khmer Krom people at this stage. Other options should be proceeded with great care so as not to jeopardise the efforts of all Khmers to achieve a greater autonomy and well-being for the Khmer Krom population.

United we stand!
