Funcinpec is planning to hold a party congress tomorrow, 18 Oct, at the party central headquarters located along Monivong street in Phnom Penh.

In two different letters dated 14 Oct, Nhiek Bun Chhay asked prime minister Hun Sen to intervene to provide security and order during the party congress. He is also asking the authorization from Hun Sen to allow about 5,000 Funcinpec party members working in the government to leave their jobs for three days (17 through 19 Oct) to participate in the congress.

Following Nhiek Bun Chhay’s letter, Chhim Siek Leng, vice-president of the permanent governing committee and representative of Prince Ranariddh, had issued a declaration on 16 Oct saying that Prince Ranariddh did not agree on this convocation for the 18 Oct meeting.

In the same letter, Chhim Siek Leng call all party members to maintain calm and order, and he also said that there is no participation to any meeting or any congress.

On 13 Oct, Nhiek Bun Chhay issued a statement that the party has no intention of convening a party meeting.

However, it is not clear why Nhiek Bun Chhay [changed his mind, and] issued a letter dated 15 Oct inviting all party officials [to attend the party meeting].

RFA could not reach Nhiek Bun Chhay for comment last night.

Congratulations. Excellent move.

It will be refreshing to see members of political party standing up and challenge the culture of running a party like someone's absolute property.

Hey! What do you know? After AH NECK BUN SHIT hand picked the 17 new lawmaker to replace the one hand pick by Prince RanNOgood and now it is time to make a change to reduce poverty and corruption?

I am somewhat had been dumbfounded by the fact the real change come with this newly hand picked the 17 lawmaker by AH NECK BUN SHIT and why? Does the newly hand picked lawmakers have more power than AH HUN SEN?

I think not! AH HUN SEN is calling all the shot even to replace any lawmakers! AH HUN SEN is the source of corruption! This is just the same old politic as usual! It is fucken rotten to the core!
