HA NOI — Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh met with a Cambodian leader yesterday to discuss bilateral co-operation.
In his meeting with Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Co-operation Hor Namhong, the General Secretary focused on the importance Viet Nam attaches with the traditional friendship with its south-west neighbour.
The two nations should strengthen and develop the "good neighbourliness, traditional friendship, comprehensive co-operation and long-term stability" between the two sides for development in the region, he said.
The General Secretary told the deputy prime minister that Viet Nam and Cambodia should look for even more ways to strengthen comprehensive co-operation.
He congratulated the achievements that Cambodia had gained in recent years and thanked the country for its continuing support.
The Party leader said he believed that the Cambodian people, under the leadership of Cambodian Royal Government, would continue to attain more victories in building a peaceful, neutral and prosperous country.
Hor Namhong, in return, thanked the General Secretary for its assistance to the Cambodian people.
He affirmed Cambodia’s aspiration to continually strengthen and develop the traditional solidarity and co-operation between the two peoples.
He added that he believed that the Vietnamese people, under the Communist Party’s leadership, would continue to gain more achievements in the country’s renewal process.
PM’s meeting
Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung sat down with the Cambodian deputy prime minister in a separate meeting yesterday to discuss border issues and trade.
Border landmarks should be established by 2008 with the help of the Viet Nam-Cambodia Joint Committee, which heads all border province meetings, the Prime Minister said.
Currently, bilateral trade has both sides hoping for a 2010 turnover of US$2 billion.
Current projects on the discussion table include planting rubber trees to process latex, exploring mineral resources, and a new hydro-electric plant on the Se San River. More tourism flights are also under consideration.
The Cambodian deputy prime minister thanked Prime Minister Dung for the meeting and agreed that both countries should increase investment in these projects.
Land management
Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung also met yesterday with Im Chhun Lim, Politburo member of the Cambodian People’s Party and Cambodian Senior Minister, who is leading a delegation of the Cambodian Ministry of Land Management, Urbanisation and Construction during its visit to Viet Nam.
Dung said the Vietnamese Government would do its best to boost comprehensive co-operation between the two governments for the benefit of the two peoples.
He asked the environment ministries of both countries to firmly co-ordinate with each other to share experience and train staff, and to implement projects in which Viet Nam is able to help Cambodia.
The Prime Minister also supported the two ministries’ plans to draw up terrain maps based on surveys of minerals.
Minister Lim thanked Dung for meeting his delegation and said Cambodia wanted to strengthen co-operation with Viet Nam on the planning, management and use of land.
Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Mai Ai Truc affirmed that Viet Nam would help Cambodia build a terrain map and implement a project to restore the standard altitude network of Cambodia.
The ministry’s officials also worked with Lim yesterday. This first official ministerial visit is aimed at promoting co-operative relations between the two ministries and exchanging experiences on policies, land management and urbanisation.
The two ministers also agreed on other matters of priority including land management, public availability of reports on land value, information on land planning and real estate.
For the rest of the week, the Cambodian delegation will work with officials from Viet Nam’s Ministry of Construction, and Ha Noi and Quang Ninh provinces to inquire into their policies on land, urbanisation and development planning. — VNS

There is no need for the Vietcong to make false claims or false advertisments about their political agendas with a few pro-Vietcong Cambodian leaders because Cambodian people had already know all the Vietcong trickery!
If the Vietcong want peace they better hand over all the illegal annexed Cambodian land and sea borders and Islands and they better free the 10 million Khmer Krom in Southern Vietname!
The Vietcong need to understand that action speak louder than words and so far the Vietcong use only words and blow alot of hot air about the friendship, the peace, and the stability with Cambodia!
After 2008, all the Vietcong double agents will be hunted down and the CPP must not allow to exist as a political party!
Vietcong tactics, peace, friendship with Cambodia But kill all Khmer Kampuchea Krom people.
Behind that big great smile, there are big sharp fangs of a monster calls " Dragon of The Viet". Do I believe you? No!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
